Manolo Blahnik unveils J.Crew collaboration
Spanish footwear designer Manolo Blahnik has unveiled his debut team-up with US retailer J.Crew at the latter’s New York Fashion Week show on 14 February.
On show at the event were the 41 re-workings of the designer’s BB style pump, with shoes in glitter, suede and colourful motifs inspired by the J.Crew apparel line.
Manolo Blahnik US president, George Malkemus, said the collaboration had been months in the works, and began when J.Crew’s executive creative director Jenna Lyons “fell in love” with the BB shoe.
While Mr Blahnik has often created footwear for top designers such as Carolina Herrera and Zac Posen, this new venture marks his first entry into a more mass market arena.
“It’s a way of bringing high and low together,” said Mr Malkemus.
