JD Sports appoints new Chair
JD Sports has announced the appointment of Peter Agnefjäll as Chair of the Board, effective September 1, 2026.
Mr Agnefjäll succeeds Darren Shapland, who has served as Interim Chair since the company's Annual General Meeting on July 21, 2026. Mr Shapland will remain on the Board as an Independent Director.
Mr Agnefjäll brings extensive international retail experience, having spent almost two decades with IKEA Group, including serving as President and CEO from 2013 to 2017. He also previously chaired Ahold Delhaize and has held non-executive roles with companies including WPP, Orkla, footwear retailer Deichmann and Wizz Air.
JD Sports said the appointment followed a board-led search process supported by an external executive search firm. The company highlighted Mr Agnefjäll's experience in governance, strategy, international growth and consumer-focused transformation as it continues to pursue its global growth ambitions.
