ASICS to establish technical lab in Kobe for elite footwear
Japan-based sports group ASICS has announced plans to open the ASICS Technical Lab (ATL) in Kobe, Japan, with operations scheduled to begin in December 2027.
The new facility will focus on developing custom footwear for elite athletes while supporting rapid prototyping and product validation across the company’s wider range.
The lab will operate in close collaboration with the ASICS Institute of Sport Science, allowing biomechanical and athlete testing insights to be applied directly to design and manufacturing. ASICS said the facility will strengthen integration between R&D and production, while also supporting the development of future engineers and craftspeople.
Initially focused on elite athlete footwear, the lab could in future support consumer products, including made-in-Japan offerings. ASICS also plans to open the facility to the public.
