Shoe standards committee meets in Beijing

China’s national technical committee for the standardisation of footwear has met for its fourth session in Beijing, it has been reported.

Over two days, from March 26 to 27, industry leaders including China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) president, Li Yuzhong, plus dean of China Leather and Footwear Industry Research Institute, Duan Limin, joined more than 200 other attendees in reviewing progress made since the third session.

Before things got underway, the names of those re-elected to the 74-person committee were shared, with Mr Li again to take the helm as chair, followed by Mr Duan and four others as deputies.

Mr Li laid out a general developmental framework for bolstering a system of comprehensive national standards; improving training and marketing activities around their implementation; strengthening ties between industry, academia and research institutions; and working to internationalise domestic standards.

A senior engineer at the research institute, where the committee’s secretariat is based, Yu Shuxian, was also named consultant. She will be supported by 94 member-observers.

Ms Yu notably issued certificates to seven new standards verification laboratories and announced the addition of several more verification labs to the committee’s roster during proceedings.
