Timberland, Vans and The North Face all launched styles using rubber from the Terra Genesis project, which it described as the “industry’s first verified regenerative rubber supply system”.
‘Regenerative agriculture' encompasses environmentally and socially conscious practices, which aim to help support biodiversity, enhance water cycles, improve soil health and sequester carbon.
Timberland launched the Greenstride Motion 6 Hiker, Vans is using the rubber in its Circle Vee silhouette, and The North Face incorporated it into most of the brand’s Surface CTRL outsoles, making up 10% of the outsole in all but three shoe models that use them.
Other achievements outlined in the report, which covers fiscal 2023, included Smartwool’s first plus-size base layers; Vans’ Off The Wall Pride Gallery Collection and donations to LGBTQ+ advocacy organisations; and the fact that nearly half of Icebreaker’s wool is now sourced from regenerative practices.
Bracken Darrell, VF’s CEO, said: “I’m impressed with the progress the company made in FY23, and we will remain focused on this important work as a key element of our overall business strategy."
