Sports group Nike has filed legal proceedings in a battle to stop the selling of unauthorised and unlicensed merchandise using their registered trademark “swoosh”.

The complaint, filed in the US federal court for the Northern district of Illinois, is made against  groups using online sales platforms such as Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Alibaba where Nike is seeking to “discover the full scope of infringement” by these groups and prevent the “rampant and flagrant listing of counterfeits on their sites.

It is alleged that many of the counterfeit suppliers operate out of global regions where international laws governing trademark enforcement are weak but where advanced technology is used making the e-commerce stores appear legitimate.
