It began working with trail runners in 2021 on a project to create a shoe that met the specific needs of these athletes.
As part of this programme, Oregon-based teacher and trail runner Tyler Green (pictured) has already logged more than 1,600 kilometres in the shoes. He has trained and raced in them, including in the 100-mile Western States Endurance Run, testing the shoes in rocky terrain, on hard climbs and on fast descents.
Features on offer in the Ultrafly Trail include a new, exclusive sole design, which Nike has developed in partnership with soling specialist Vibram. It has Vibram’s Litebase technology in the outsole and special lug and grip technology to give good, lightweight grip in rough terrain.
The shoe also features a carbon plate, positioned between a layer of foam and a fabric-wrapped midsole.
