Footwear brand Clarks has issued a global recall for navy and dark navy shoes from the Breeze and Brinkley styles in its women’s collection.

The recall was triggered after Clarks tested samples of the shoes and found excess levels of benzidine or dimethoxybenzidine. These chemicals are found in Azo dyes and are restricted in some countries.

Clarks has informed the relevant regulatory authorities and alerted retailers so that customers who bought these styles can be traced.

It has issued an apology to customers affected by the recall.
