Plastic upcycling brand wins Oceans Prize
The founder of Portuguese footwear brand Zouri, Adrana Mano, was recently awarded the honour of Outstanding Female Entrepreneur during the 2022 United Nations Oceans Conference, held in Lisbon.
Ms Mano represented Portugal after having applied to the Oceans Prize following a recommendation made by the US government’s Global Innovation through Science and Technology initiative, local media said.
The Braga-based brand, which makes its footwear from recycled plastic waste retrieved from the Portuguese coastline, described the award as “crucial” to raising its profile across international markets.
Zouri has already removed 1 ton of discarded plastic from Portugal's beaches, according to its website.
