ISA TanTec partners WWF to set stricter sourcing guidelines

10/05/2022

Footwear-focused tannery group ISA TanTec is partnering the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to launch a sourcing policy focused on deforestation and animal welfare in Brazil and Paraguay.

ISA outlined its LITE Sourcing programme in 2020 and part of this, Greener Pastures, has been written to comply with a stricter set of animal welfare and traceability standards than Leather Working Group (LWG) certifications.

Suppliers located in the proximity of the Amazon Biome and Chaco Biome will be required to prove that no hides supplied by slaughterhouses originate from the biome or other places where deforestation  is an issue.

All suppliers should align with the Five Animal Freedom principles:
• Freedom from hunger and thirst
• Freedom from discomfort
• Freedom from pain, injury and disease
• Freedom to express normal behaviour
• Freedom from fear and distress

ISA has also committed to developing more partnership opportunities to improve ethics, traceability and accountability throughout its supply chain.

ISA TanTec was founded in 1995 and has four LWG gold-rated tanneries located in the US, Vietnam, and China.
