Anta manufactured the footwear, while the Haining firm produced the shoes’ flexible battery (weighing in at only 100 grams) and elasticated heating pad responsible for their thermal insulation.
By pressing a switch, which then lights up (pictured), the bendy, stretchable and waterproof battery generates heat at between 38 to 42 degrees Celsius inside the boots. Elastic wiring connects the battery to the interior heating pad and three different temperature settings have been integrated into the footwear’s design.
Led by Dr He Lei, Jiaxing Jizhan Technology has reportedly been working on this technology for around two years. The company’s thermal socks and heated knee pads, powered by the same innovation, have also been supplied to the Games’ volunteers.
