Momad to relaunch as hybrid event in September
Events organiser Ifema Madrid has announced the return of its Momad event in September. It will run in the Spanish capital from September 17-19 and will include footwear among the components. Momad last took place in February 2020.
Footwear’s inclusion in Momad has a patchy recent history.
Madrid used to have a dedicated footwear exhibition called Modacalzado (a combination of the words for ‘fashion’ and ‘footwear’). It was subsumed into the wider Momad fashion event in 2013.
In 2015, the organisers acceded to requests from footwear manufacturers and from Spain’s main shoe industry body, FICE, to reserve a separate hall at the Ifema exhibition site for the shoe component of Momad.
The following year, Ifema separated out the footwear component and ran Momad Shoes as a separate event on different dates. By 2018, the number of footwear companies showing new collections at Momad had shrunk to 80 and FICE pledged its support for a spin-off event at a different location, Shoes By Momad, which ran for the first time in March 2019.
In December 2019, FICE and Ifema announced that they had reached agreement to absorb Shoesroom back into Momad.
