New $307.1 million smart shoe manufacturing base for Wenzhou’s Lucheng
A new intelligent footwear manufacturing base is currently under construction in Wenzhou’s Lucheng district, the centre of the area’s shoemaking industry.
The total amount invested in the project by local conglomerate Juyi Group is said to be around $307.1 million, according to reports.
It is hoped that construction, which began last December, will be completed by the end of the year. The total construction area is around 550,000 square-metres.
Production plants, plus data and exhibition centres, sales areas and research and development spaces are all included in the plan for the site, which local media described as “mid-to-high-end”.
Artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and digitised logistics have been incorporated in the base’s design.
Due to the project timeframe being reduced to 500 days, around 800 construction workers are expected on-site during the next building “peak”, a site spokesperson said. “Of course, you can imagine the difficulty and pressure we face, but we will do our best to adhere to safety and quality standards,” they added.
