Bangladesh plans footwear industrial parks

The Bangladesh government has announced plans to set up footwear and leathergoods industrial parks in three locations across the country, with one of them setting up beside the leather manufacturing cluster at Savar, near Dhaka.

Other finished product manufacturing clusters will appear at Puthia in Rajshahi in the west of Bangladesh and at Chattogram in the south of the country.

Industry body the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) has said an increase in production capacity is essential for meeting demand from domestic and export markets for footwear and leathergoods.
