Shoe uppers have the upper hand in Turkey

Tanners in Turkey have said low demand for nappa leathers for the garment industry is increasingly driving the domestic leather manufacturing industry towards shoe upper leathers.

In spite of sheepskin prices that they describe as “very low”, garment leather manufacturers are finding it difficult to produce profitably.

Meanwhile, bovine hide prices are also low and demand for footwear in the domestic and some export markets is strong enough to make shoe upper leather production more viable at the moment.
