UK brand uses old tyres for soles on driving loafers

According to the brand, using material from tyres in the soles gives the shoes high levels of durability and grip while retaining “an elegant and classic style”.
It calls the collection TS1; it comprises eight styles and the finished shoes are made in Portugal.
Brothers Hugo and Benjie Davis, co-founders of Hugs & Co, have explained that their concern was that millions of scrap tyres pile up every year. “Designed not to degrade, they create long-term damage to the environment,” the brothers have said. “Waste tyres are often burned, giving off toxic fumes. Alternatives for disposal are burying or highly costly and energy-consuming methods to break them down. The TS1 repurposes this material and the simple process produces a tenth of the CO2 that new soles would to make.”
