It said it would continue a programme of moving production away from China to a number of locations in south-east Asia. The newest of these manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, where Stella has said it will now ramp up production.
The group opened this factory, north of Hanoi, two years ago and has spent time training up the workforce there to achieve the quality of finished product it wants. Increasing the volume of shoes it makes there will help it reach its stated ambition to make 50% of its shoes in China and 50% in other Asian countries by the end of this year.
Chairman, Lawrence Chen, said on announcing the group’s first-quarter results: “While global consumption remains robust, a number of risks remain in our external environment, particularly ongoing trade frictions between the United States and China, as well as ongoing uncertainties around Brexit. It is therefore essential that we continue to demonstrate the value that we provide to our customers, particularly the quality of our products, as well as our high-end manufacturing capabilities.”
