Owner of Dr Martens considers selling the brand

Media reports in the UK have suggested that private equity firm Permira is considering selling UK-based footwear brand Dr Martens, six years after purchasing it.

The group acquired Dr Martens in 2013 for £300 million, adding it to a portfolio that also includes fashion labels like Hugo Boss and New Look.

According to reports in the UK press, Permira will hire bankers to oversee a review of its options for the brand. As well as the option of a sale, it would also consider listing Dr Martens on a US stock exchange, the reports said.

Dr Martens boots were invented in 1947 by Klaus Martens, a German doctor who had a foot injury and created its signature air-cushioned sole.
