Poppy Barley asks customers to donate unwanted shoes

Canadian footwear brand Poppy Barley has invited customers in its home city, Edmonton, to donate unwanted shoes to non-profit organisation Soles4Souls.

Poppy Barley, which was founded in 2012 by sisters Kendall and Justine Barber, has asked its customers to take shoes they don’t want to its flagship store in Edmonton’s Southgate Centre shopping mall any time before the end of January.

The company will forward donated shoes to Soles4Souls, which will clean and repair the footwear before distributing it to people in need. “On average, North Americans throw away more than 30 kilos per person of unwanted clothing and textile waste each year,” Poppy Barley said on announcing the initiative. “Meanwhile, children and adults around the world live every day without reliable footwear for school and work.”

As a thank-you, it will give customers who donate shoes a special 10% discount on purchases of new shoes in store.
