UNIDO pledges support for new Chinese industrial development agency
The Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), Li Yong, travelled to China at the start of July to hold meetings with a number of high-ranking senior officials, including Wang Xiaotao, chairman of the newly-established China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

UNIDO said one of the main aims of the visit was to explore potential areas for cooperation, including China’s Belt and Road Initiative, south-south Cooperation, industrialisation in Africa, and trade and investment to increase manufacturing capacity in developing counties.

Mr Wang said UNIDO and the new agency he heads have similar mandates, to advance what he called “inclusive and sustainable industrial development”.

For his part, Mr Li said: “The establishment of CIDCA will serve to strengthen China’s cooperation with developing countries. UNIDO stands ready to support CIDCA as it provides strategic guidance to China’s south-south and trilateral cooperation activities.”
