Future of Co-Shoes in doubt

Spain’s main footwear industry body FICE may not continue with its Co-Shoes event, according to local media reports.

The organisation launched Co-Shoes in October 2014, inviting fashion brands and retailers to visit Elche and talk to local shoe manufacturers about sourcing high-quality footwear that they could put their own companies’ names on.

A second edition of Co-Shoes took place in April 2015 and a third in the autumn of 2016, co-located this time with footwear components and machinery exhibition Futurmoda.

After a disappointing turn-out at the 2016 edition, FICE said it would hold Co-Shoes every two years, saying it felt this would work well as discussions between Elche-based shoe manufacturers and their white label customers could take place outside normal fashion cycles.

However, FICE’s most recent comments indicate that, while it is still in the process of making a definite decision, it may not go ahead with Co-Shoes in 2018.
