Hungarian brand prepares for Düsseldorf shows

Budapest-based handmade shoe brand NES is to take part both in the Gallery (January 27-29) and Gallery Shoes (March 11-13) exhibitions in Düsseldorf in the early part of next year.

Now run by an environmentally focused non-profit company called Erlin, NES was founded in 2004 by Hungarian designer Andrea Szilágyi, a graduate of the Studio Berçot in Paris; it is she who still makes all the shoes that the company sells. She describes her footwear as stylish, but also as eco-friendly and natural. She prefers vegetable-tanned leathers and natural dyes, for example.

Ms Szilágyi’s philosophy is to hold no stock and only make to order, but for the two Düsseldorf events, she will produce prototypes to let buyers see the type of work she can do.

Customers are able to order online, using the company’s instructions on how to measure feet and the shoes are usually available within 15 working days.
