Footwear industry representative bodies in the Valencia region of Spain have joined together to launch a new “eco-innovation” project aimed at making shoe production there more environmentally friendly.

Alicante-based association Fepica and regional body Avecal presented the new project at a joint event at the end of October. Industry 4.0, the circular economy and sustainability were the main topics for discussion on the day.

They also presented the results of a study that suggests that 56% of footwear manufacturers in the region are already using recycled material, either in production or in their businesses more widely.
