Desma, Superfeet and RS Scan join HP in new footwear system

Technology company HP, best known for its computers and printers, is powering a new foot-scanning and individualised shoe production system called FitStation.

Partners that worked with HP include direct-injection soling systems developer Desma, insole brand Superfeet and provider of gait analysis and pressure plate technology RS Scan.

Hardware and software incorporated into FitStation will allow users to capture 500 measurements of the foot per second. Then, PU injection moulded midsoles provide specific hardness zones and a fit built to the specific requirements captured by the scans.

The companies behind FitStation have said the technology offers shoe brands and retailers the opportunity to differentiate products “with a lot size of one”.

Eleven footwear retailers in different parts of the US are preparing to run pilots with the new technology.
