Messe Düsseldorf’s move away from shoes is complete

Messe Düsseldorf, the long-time host and co-organiser of the influential GDS footwear exhibition in the German city, has completed the severance of its ties to the footwear industry.

The company announced at the start of this year that the February 2017 edition of GDS would be the last. Partner company and co-organiser of GDS, Igedo, then announced that it will organise a new international footwear exhibition in Düsseldorf, Gallery Shoes, from August 2017 onwards.

Now Messe Düsseldorfhas announced the sale of shares it held in Igedo, bringing to an end its links to the footwear sector. Igedo managing partner, Philipp Kronen, has bought the shares.

At the time of the announcement, Mr Kronen commented: “Today I am happy and sad at the same time. On the one hand, I’m delighted that Igedo will once again become a 100% family-owned company, but on the other, Messe Düsseldorf GmbH has always been a fantastic partner. In fact, we couldn’t have wished for better. But now we need to look to the future and concentrate our full attention on successfully organising tradeshows in Düsseldorf for the clothing and shoe industry.”
