Rise in value of Bangladesh's leather shoe exports

During the first eleven months of the 2016/17 financial year (July 2016 to May 2017), Bangladesh’s export revenue for leather and related products rose 9.2%, reaching $1.12 billion, according to the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The value of exported leather products increased 19% to $421.3 million, while the country exported leather footwear worth $477.5 during the 11 months, 12.5% higher than at the same point in the previous year. 

There was less positive new about finished leather exports, however. The value of these exports fell 10.3% to $224.9 million. 

Bangladesh has set an export target of $1.22 billion for the leather sector in the year that runs from July 2016 to June 2017.
