Adidas adds Horween leather to classic skateboard shoe
Sportswear group Adidas has re-released one of its classic skateboard sneaker designs, adding leather from US tannery Horween Leather to give it a luxury touch.

The Busenitz Pro Horween sneaker was first released in 2006. It was designed in collaboration with skateboarder Dennis Busenitz, who has played an important role in the history of Adidas Skateboarding.

A limited-edition version of the shoe was released at the start of May. Using the original silhouette as the base, Adidas added an upper made from American bison leather and a leather lining. It also contains gold embossed branding on the insole.

Adidas and Horween have previously collaborated on a luxury version of the classic Stan Smith silhouette, which used the tannery’s vegetable-tanned Essex leather. It is designed to develop a patina with age.

In an interview with World Footwear in 2016 Nick Horween, the fifth generation of his family to work at Horween Leather, said footwear was an “important part” of the company’s business. He added that Horween is “always trying to improve and explore new opportunities”.
