Shoe consumption in Argentina is down by 30%, CIC says

The president of Argentina’s main footwear industry association, CIC, Alberto Sellaro, has described as “terrible” the situation that the industry there is enduring at the moment.

Speaking at a recent event in Buenos Aires aimed at analysing the future of the footwear industry, Mr Sellaro said: “Shoe consumption in Argentina is down by 30%; people’s spending power has gone down sharply. Mother’s Day, for example, (celebrated on third Sunday in October in Argentina) was a non-event this year.”

He said shoe production across the country has fallen too, estimating that when CIC completes its calculations for the first ten months of 2016, they will show a year-on-year downturn of between 10 million and 12 million pairs.
