Garment and footwear exports from Cambodia increased 7.6% in 2015 to $6.3 billion with footwear leading the way, according to figures from the Cambodian Garment and Footwear Sector bulletin.

Cambodia’s footwear sector continued its strong growth, reaching export levels of $538 million, a 21.8% increase on 2014’s figures. Garment exports meanwhile were up 6.5% to $5.7 billion.

The European Union (EU) was the destination for 46% of exports, making it Cambodia’s largest export market, followed by the US which represents a 30% share. Other markets, primarily Canada and Japan, make up the remaining 24% of exports.

Garment and footwear exports currently make up for 78% of Cambodia’s total merchandise exports but this is down from 82% in 2010 due to efforts to diversify the country’s economy.
