National honour for Berluti master shoe maker

Berluti master shoemaker Patrice Rock was one of eight artisans who received the Chevalier des Lettres et des Arts award from the French ministry of culture in February. The brand’s chief executive, Antoine Arnault, accompanied Mr Rock to the special ceremony at which he and his fellow award-winners received their insignia.

On presenting his award, culture minister, Audrey Azoulay, paid tribute to Patrice Rock’s commitment to “a constant dialogue with customers, through which you are continuously able to reinvent your art”. She said Mr Rock’s ability to make sure no two pairs of shoes were the same was one of the main reasons Berluti is “one of the few brands in the sector that can offer made-to-measure shoes”.

She said that, during his 12 years at Berluti, Mr Rock has had “1,500 unique pieces” pass through his hands.
