Tunisia’s National Leather and Footwear Centre (CNCC) has signed an agreement with the Italian tanning and footwear machinery sector cementing what it calls commercial and knowledge ties between industry representatives in the two countries.

Reports from the North African country say Italian leather industry machinery manufacturers’ representative body, Assomac, took part in a seminar in Tunis at the end of September and signed the new agreement, under which it will supply expertise as well as machinery and technical assistance to producers in Tunisia.

CNCC’s director general, Omar Bouzouwada, said afterwards that he believes the links to Assomac will help the industry in Tunisia increase its competitiveness and creativity.

At the seminar, Assomac’s director for international relations, Mario Pucci, pointed out that Italy’s partnership with the Tunisian leather and footwear sector is already well established. He said 60 Italian manufacturers are already active in Tunisia and have collective export revenues of around $200 million per year.
