Insqin remains core to Covestro’s business

The chief executive of Covestro, the new name for polymer materials supplier Bayer MaterialScience, Patrick Thomas, has said the company will keep its commitment to the textile industry and will continue to develop the technology and services model it launched under the brand name Insqin in 2014.

Insqin provides what Covestro calls “a platform for the industry to access a new generation of PU-coated fabrics”. It describes Insqin materials as versatile and highly functional, suitable for use in diverse sports applications, ranging from athletic shoes to soccer balls.

Produced entirely without solvents and consuming fewer resources than standard PU-coated materials, Insqin materials address product innovation needs and “the sustainability agenda”, Covestro says, to which leading brands in the industry are increasingly committed.

The Insqin offer has recently been extended with the introduction of new bio-based PU dispersions under the Impranil eco name. With renewable content as high as 65%, these new products help brands and manufacturers further reduce carbon emissions. Using a non-food bio source, they also deliver performance similar to conventional products, the manufacturer insists. Among these, Impranil DLE is specifically for sports shoe uppers.

Covestro has launched a new Insqin partner manufacturer programme, which it says seeks to break down “supply chain barriers to innovation” by connecting audited manufacturers of new materials with downstream partners seeking to source such materials.
