Footwear group Caleres (formerly Brown Shoe) has reported second-quarter sales of $637.8 million, which is flat compared to the same quarter in 2014, but sales for the first six months of this year of almost $1.25 billion, which is up year on year by 1.1%.

“We reported a solid quarter, as expected, with improved sales, margins and adjusted earnings,” said chief executive, Diane Sullivan, on reporting the results. “Gross and operating margin both expanded in the quarter. We also improved bottom-line performance by 22%, thanks to continued progress toward our long-term strategic initiatives.”
