Brazil-based chemicals company Rhodia has launched products for leather and footwear sector, developed at its Paulínia-based lab and alongside the country’s leather industry.

Its Polyamide & Intermediates division has launched Efficium, a highly dispersible silica, used in the production of rubber soles.
“Innovation is a key pillar of the company strategy, allowing us to develop Efficium, a breakthrough highly dispersible silica” said Paulo Garbelotto, marketing manager for Solvay Silica in Latin America. “Efficium has better dispersion and compatibility with rubber, allowing less energy consumption by the mixer and shorter machinery use time.”

Rhodia produces technologies for leather treatment, chemical intermediates for the production of polyurethane in footwear, silicas used in soles, sustainable solvents for adhesives and leather, and high tenacity textile and industrial yarns for use in industrial sewing lines. The leather-footwear sector accounts for around 7% of annual chemical sales by Rhodia in Brazil.
