FDRA creates customs ‘resource centre’ for footwear industry

03/12/2014
The Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America (FDRA) has created an online customs ‘resource centre’ for the footwear industry which will simplify customs classifications and help brands understand the rules.

The new ‘centre’ covers recent footwear classification rulings by Customs Border and Protection (CBP), footwear classification forms and codes by country, key classification definitions, labelling and markings information, as well as information on issues such as foxing.

“As the footwear industry continues to innovate, footwear classification is becoming more and more complex. FDRA is constantly pushing to end duties on footwear, but until that day happens it is focused on helping brands understand and adapt to the current rules,” said FDRA president Matt Priest.

Quinn O’Rourke, Director of Compliance and Logistics for LaCrosse Footwear, added that an incorrect classification could cost a company thousands of dollars. “Now I can go to one place to get information on my footwear customs questions,” he said.
