Young talent honoured at Footwear Friends Awards
A young company making foldaway flat shoes inspired by sore feet after nights out was among winners at the eighth Footwear Friends Annual Awards.

Rollasole founder Matt Horan poured his efforts into developing and patenting Rollasole shoes after giving his girlfriend piggy-backs home, and was awarded a £5,000 bursary after taking the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers Award for Innovation at the London-based event.

The Micro-Pak award for £2,500 plus 12-months mentoring programme was presented to Ibiza-made sandal brand Solillas, while the Meltzer Travel Award went to Dear Frances, which specialises in Italian leather shoes. It will help the brand with trade show costs and also includes a mentoring programme.

Footwear Friends committee member Malcolm Collins said: “It is always difficult to choose between so much talent but we feel that the winners were those who not only had exciting product but business acumen as well, and as such will develop into major players in the footwear industry. I am also delighted that so many people attended the event and by doing so supported the trade’s unique charity.”
