Details of a meeting, in which the German Shoe and Leather Industry association (HDS/L) helped European Commission representatives gain a better understanding of the industry’s challenges, have emerged.

Hosted by the International Shoe Competence Centre (ISC) in Pirmasens, Germany, experts spoke on topics such as cutting and leather skiving as well as the latest footwear production technologies.

Alberto Bichi, director of government affairs for HDS/L, said: “We are happy that the European Commission is investing the time to better understand the practicalities and challenges of the shoe manufacturing process. This will help increase consistency between theory and practice.’’

The Commission delegation was led by Jean François Aguinaga, head of the textile, fashion, design and creative industries unit.
