Assocal in new appeal for help as Italy’s shoe exports fall sharply
13/10/2014
Mr Sagripanti’s most recent appeal for help came after Assocalzaturifici reported a decline of 18.4% in the volume of shoes its members exported in the first six months of 2014 compared to the same months last year. In the first half of 2014 Italy exported just over 3.5 million pairs of shoes.
There was a fall in value too, of 21.7% year on year, which means first-half exports in 2014 brought in export revenues of just over €900 million.
“We are asking the government not to abandon us,” Cleto Sagripanti said. “These are measures that can really give a boost to companies suffering from uncertainty in world markets, particularly Russia. The government should also support our international promotional efforts, because we’re convinced that investing more resources is the best way out of this serious impasse.”
