Turkey wants to add more value to its finished leather

24/07/2014
A conference is to take place in Turkey in the coming months to discuss strategies for manufacturers in the country to add greater value to the leather local tanners produce.

In 2013, Turkish tanners exported finished leather, particularly for shoe uppers and garment nappa, with a total value of more than $300 million. Now, in association with the ministry for the economy and development, industry bodies such as the leather exporters’ union and the footwear manufacturers’ association want to meet to discuss ways in which to add greater value on domestic soil.

Commentators on the Turkish leather industry have said discussions about an increase in the country’s capacity for producing footwear and leather garments are likely to feature prominently.
