Strong growth for India’s leather exports

Figures from the Indian government show that the country’s wider leather sector achieved export growth of 17.8% in the financial year that ran from April 2013 to March 2014.

Over the 12-month period, India achieved leather export earnings of $5.9 billion compared to just over $ 5 billion in the previous financial year. In local currency, the increase was substantially higher at 31%.

Leather footwear exports contributed $2 billion to the total, registering year-on-year growth of 18.3%.
