Columbia Sportswear reports 30% increase in footwear sales

On releasing its results for the first quarter of 2014, sports and outdoor apparel, footwear and equipment group Columbia Sportswear said its sales of footwear increased by 30% over the three-month period to reach $70.4 million.

Chief executive, Tim Boyle, said on announcing the figures that the first-quarter results, which showed an overall increase in sales of 22% to $424.1 million, were “outstanding”. He said there was robust demand for the Columbia and Sorel brands in particular, but also said a new joint-venture project in China had had a successful start.
