Dominican officials woo Wolverine in China
The government of the Dominican Republic has announced it will provide funding for training footwear workers for companies that set up factories or manufacture products in the country.
A delegation has attended a meeting of Wolverine suppliers in China to try to win more business and promote the country as a footwear manufacturing destination.
Administrative minister Jose Ramon Peralta said: “As a sign of our commitment to welcome and accompany future investments, we’ve created a specialised commission to promote and meet the sector’s needs.”
In October, Wolverine announced it was to close a manufacturing facility in the Dominican to cut costs, but said it was evaluating strategic alternatives with respect to a second manufacturing facility in the country.
More than 30 multinational brands including Rocky Brands and Timberland manufacture shoes in the Caribbean country.
