Fourth standalone store for Cheaney

British footwear manufacturer Joseph Cheaney & Sons is to open a store in London’s Spitalfields, the fourth in a retail portfolio which includes Lime Street, Bow Lane and Piccadilly Arcade.

The opening comes four years after the company was bought by cousins William and Jonathan Church of the Church’s footwear family, another iconic British manufacturer.

Joint managing director Jonathan Church has told footwearbiz.com: “Customers like the fact that it is made in England and the heritage that goes with that. It’s a very different look to the Italians; the Italians have a huge market but Made in England look is particularly strong at the moment.”

The company has grown significantly in recent years; turnover has doubled and the export market is increasing.

“Our new shop in Spitalfields places the Cheaney brand into another exciting and thriving retail district in our core market,” added Mr Church.
