Footwear brands express concerns over new Madrid exhibition

The first edition of Momad Metrópolis, the successor exhibition to Modacalzado and Iberpiel, took place in Madrid at the start of September.

Around 300 exhibitors took part, presenting footwear, leathergoods and other accessories for spring-summer 2014.

Commentators said afterwards that accessory brands had declared themselves more satisfied than their footwear counterparts with the event. Shoe brands said they missed the footwear focus of Modacalzado and the presence of important footwear buyers from all over Spain and a wide range of overseas countries.

A number of important Spanish footwear brands, including Callaghan, Fluchos and Pikolinos, opted not to exhibit. The organisers of Momad Metrópolis said they believed a multi-sector show would be of benefit to all exhibitors but first impressions suggest it worked far less well for footwear than for accessories.
