Swenco says “weekend warriors” need more foot protection

Waterloo, Ontario-based Swenco has said its Steel-Flex puncture resistant insoles can provide the required protection for hunters, fisherman and other outdoor enthusiasts that it believes are less inclined to wear full safety shoes while taking part in their favourite pursuits.

“Weekend warriors are not inclined to purchase safety shoes,” Swenco said on making the announcement, “despite the danger of nails or sharp rocks going through their soles. With a pair of Steel-Flex insoles, their feet will be protected and their pockets won’t be considerably lightened.”

The Canadian company went on to point out that in some work contexts, such as those involving medical first responders or sanitation workers, these insoles provide an extra measure of safety against syringes, glass shards, rusted steel scraps, and other sharp objects.

When designing the Steel-Flex, Swenco said it realised that the footwear industry has traditionally taken “a simplistic approach” to safety insoles by laminating a steel plate to the bottom of an insole. The solution it offers in the Steel-Flex is to encapsulate a steel plate approved by the Canadian Standards Association within a puncture-resistant insole.
