The Geox footwear group has bought the rights to use the Diadora sports brand in China, Hong Kong and Macao.

Through a holding company called LIR, the founder of Geox, Mario Moretti Polegato, bought the Diadora brand in 2009.

Following the acquisition of the rights to trade under the once-iconic Italian sports brand in greater China, Reuters quoted LIR as saying the company had a particular interest in expanding the brand internationally, and in particular in China.

The news agency said the China, Macao and Hong Kong rights had been owned by Hong Kong-based Win Hanverky and that the deal was worth more than $9 million.
