Former Nike designer helps students go into production

While talks are at early stages, the collaboration seems a logical fit, according to Winnie Peng, senior project director at Shoe-Manufacturer.com.
“We have worked with many first-time shoe designers who dream of starting their own brand,” she said. “Athletic shoes in particular require the designer to have a thorough understanding of the components and how they affect performance. We have developed the skills and take the extra time needed to work with new designers, and try to keep the production order minimums as low as possible to make it possible for them to start their own brands, if that’s what they’d like to do.”
Mr Edwards was previously a design director at Nike, and through the academy offers courses in how to approach design as a combination of function and aesthetics. Pensole is based in Oregon, home of Nike, and was created to give students, regardless of socioeconomic background, the opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s best.
