US footwear retailer DSW has reopened its New York store that suffered the most damage in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which hit the east coast of the country in October.

Although many DSW stores in the path the storm closed temporarily, the store in Lawrence sustained significant damage, with repairs taking over a month to complete.

DSW launched a fundraising drive in partnership with the Red Cross and raised $250,000 for affected communities.

"We're thrilled to be able to contribute to the Red Cross in support of the Hurricane Sandy relief effort," said Mike MacDonald, CEO of DSW. "This contribution was made possible by the generosity of our customers and associates, combined with a DSW corporate donation."
