Tod’s luxury footwear brand has pledged to pay EUR 5.2 million over five years to help fund Milan’s La Scala opera house. The company has also pledged money to restoration projects for the Colosseum in Rome and the ancient town of Pompeii.

One of the Tod’s owners, Diego Della Valle, said on announcing the donation to La Scala that other private-sector firms should take similar steps because of cuts in public funding for Italy’s cultural institutions.
