Footwear exports to Middle East countries grow in volume

Brazilian footwear exports to Middle Eastern countries grew by 23% in January 2009 to 341,200 pairs compared to 277,600 pairs in the same period last year, the Brazilian Association of Footwear Manufacturers (Abicalçados) has said. 

In spite of the growth in volume, turnover fell from $3.2 million in January 2008 to $3.05 milion in January 2009, a 4% drop. Last year, the average price per pair was $11.43 while this year it has gone down to $8.94.
 
The countries in the region importing Brazilian shoes this year are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Morocco??and Oman. Saudi Arabia imported the most followed by the UAE and Egypt. The average price of the shoes exported to Saudi Arabia was $4.87 per pair while the shoes imported by Oman had an average value of $47.00 per pair.
